Dr. Meghan K. McGovern is committed to the care of patients with cosmetic
and reconstructive needs, and is particularly devoted to reconstruction and
restoration of symmetry after ablative surgery for breast cancer.
Dr. McGovern received her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry at the
University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. She then earned her
Medical Degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, also in
Charlottesville. After medical school, she continued her training as a
general surgery resident at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, PA. After
three years in general surgery, she continued on at Lehigh Valley Hospital
as a plastic surgery resident for another three years, completing her
training in June, 2002.
While at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Dr. McGovern coordinated and carried out a
research project in which she studied donor sites for skin grafts, in order
to find a product which would reduce pain and allow better healing with less
scarring in patients who require skin grafting. She presented her work at
The American Burn Association national meeting in Chicago, Illinois in the
spring of 2002. While a resident, Dr. McGovern gave many presentations on
various aspects of wound healing, and actively participated in the education
of medical students.
When she is not at work, Dr. McGovern enjoys spending time with her husband
and taking care of her aquariums.
